Facebook
Introduction
Facebook is fastest growing social networking website on the Internet. Rarely out
of the headlines thanks to coverage on it's rapidly expanding user base, and regular
announcements on it's business side, Facebook has been estimated to have an approximate
worth of £5bn, and have over 34 million active users around the world.
Facebook provides a range of easy to use tools, to facilitate messaging, adding
friends and photo and video sharing. The Facebook team continue to develop and improve
the Facebook tools, adding extra functions and features. As of a recent business
move, independent individuals and businesses can develop and add so-called 'applications'
for the Facebook system, allowing users to add additional functionality to their
profile pages - in most cases this hasn't proved actually useful to users, but has
resulted in several applications being sold for prices in the millions.

Many believe some of Facebook's success lies in it's easy to use interface, with
clean blue and grey lines. Certainly from a business standpoint, it's financial
success comes partly from the adverts being well intergrated into the website. A
significant amount of revenue is also provided thanks to an advertising deal with
Microsoft.
